Will not start when starting button pressed...Dead as a door nail! Battery fully charged, terminals tight, in neutral, fuse is fine....it will turn over when putting a screwdriver over selinoid terminals......Any suggestions?
Remove cables from starting switch, connect a light tester or Ohm meter on electrical contacts, press the switch, if light does not come ON or with no continuity reading starting switch is kaputt. Replace.
Thanks guys/gals, I believe you are correct and it will be the switch. When I depress it, it is very firm even hard and the motor was stored in a heated basement for the past 2 years since I ran it on the St. Lawrence. Great engine can move a 14 ft deep v with three big men and gear at 25 mph, really. I want to keep it going, its a 1995 and quite frankly, dont want to spend the $$ to get a new one since I only use it 3-4 times a year...I will get back to you with the results...
Back again guys...I'm no electrical genius, far from it. I'm much better at keeping a good home for my kids rather than doing man's work...so. I removed the starter switch and the contacts seemed a bit worn MAYBE even a bit burnt. I plugged the starter wires back into their appropriate mates and put a screwdriver over the terminals and nothing happened...even ran a wire to both of them without the switch, nothing....frustrated in PA...Shelly
