Hi all, I am looking at buying a 2-4 year old boat and many have the 250/300 HPDI. I have heard the track record on these is pretty bad. I am wondering, is all the bad press justified? or Am I only seeing the horor stories and most people are actually quite happy. Have the fowling issues been resolved? Is there a good indicator of which engines are lemons? Or should I be looking to avoid these engines all together?

Thanks in advance.

They require that the matiance be done correctly buy a qualifed person

It is needed every year OR 100 hours (example)

If things are skiped cause it took 3 to get to 100 hours there will be problems with any EFI OR DFI outboard :)

personnaly and professionally, as a master yamaha tech, I dont care much for the Z motors.
the Z250 had issues and the Z300 is rather hard on plugs and oil. seems the Z300 will go as rich as 32/1 on oil making them oil hogs.
however the Z300 so far has been reliable other than plug fouling and oil consumption.
myself I would rather have one of the V F motors.
