250 suzuki outboard with trouble at top running speed

I have a 2008 suzuki 250 outboard. Put it in the water for the first time this year and noticed a 6 flashing on the left side of my hour gauge. motor runs fine unless i open it all the way up around 6000 rpms then lose power and get a alarm, anything below 6000 rpms and it runs great. Any ideas??

I'd think the manual would tell you what the flashing six means, which would lead to solving the problem.
