Hey guys had the boat out yesterday for a test ride ,I have to say it wasnt too bad. started up fine reversed fine forward fine but tried to get on plane and the boat wasnt having it. Basically I rebuilt the motor and everything is perfect in the driveway. The issue starts when in forward move the throttle up to 2500 rpms and the motor goes to 2500 rpms but the boat is just not moving like its at 2500 rpm at all more like a slug. I adjusted the rotor on the distribotor on the just to get her going but didnt use the timing gun to dial it in. Is this a typical symptom to not have the timing dialed in? She purrs in the driveway, but obviously we aint going boating in the driveway. Thanks for any advice. I do have the timing procedure and am going to do it this week I just was hoping to get some assurance that this is typicl of incorrect timing .

Re: 2500 RPMS no go

what prop have you got on there? if youve got a 23 or 25 you are way over propped

a 3.0 is pretty small engine for a 19.5 ft vessel....

try a 19 or 17 pitch prop

check the current prop for binding (rope around base of it mebbe?)

Time that baby with a light asap...dont want to ping and pop a hole in a piston or blow a headgasket because of a timing issue...especially after you worked so hard to rebuild it...

hope any of this helps

UPDATED Re: 2500 RPMS no go

So I got around to doing the timing today and It seemed to be way out. I checked the advance and looked correct. EST so i did the procedure with the closed loop on the dizzy and bypass the cutoff switch , really it went pretty well . I think this was my issue anyhow thanks and ill update to share my success. Thanks guys.
