250hp EFI Merc

[Salty Tricks]

I am trying to pull the trigger on buying a used 250hp EFI early 2000's

Are there any known issues with these? Any tell tales that will let me know this is a good motor. Compression seems even, oil seems clean, overall appearance is excellent. Price is okay.

Quality oil

Quality fuel

Prop it correctly

Avoid excessive idle time

Warm up at EVERY start/restart before WOT

Hi,
I have a pair of 2003 250efi saltwater's on my boat. Bought the bought used, and put about 120hrs on them last summer & they both ran absolutly flawless. Also i have a friend of mine who has a 2001 250 efi with almost 1000hrs on it,other than very minor things his runs exellent also! As long as you can afford the gas...because they do suck it down very quick. All i could say is start it up & enjoy!
