03 250 hpdi. i thought it was a water issue. but its not. basically yesterday i was trolling for about 3 hours. in 46 degree water and it started to run kinda rough....went to take off and it seemed like it was starving for something...it got a little worse then shut off. i went to start and when the key was turned i was getting a constant alarm. it sat for like 3 minutes and started right back up and ran perfectly....? i ran about 6 miles at about 4400 rpms and didnt skip a beat. fouling plugs since the water is so cold? would 3 hours of trolling in 46 deg water foul plugs? im stumped. help RODBOLT

thanks guys

Re: 250hpdi RODBOLT help.

You seem to know so little about operating your motor....would advise reading the owner's manual?? What alarm was blinking on the gauge...it tells you whats wrong with a symbol....was the alarm continual or intermittent? This also is designed to tell you what's wrong...as book explains. Do you think there is an alarm for fouled plugs? The FOULED PLUG alarm? Do I have ideas? Sure, but want to narrow them down by knowing what alarm you had....

sorry im not a marine tech. there was a continual alarm. it wasnt overheat, as i checked my guages for that. i replaced the water sep with a racor to prevent water issues if that were to happen. i bought the motor used with 100 hours on it, and it didnt come with a manual **** and havent been able to get one yet. so maybe u could ease up a little bit. if u dont have anything useful to say besides beat up on people who arent as smart as you. then dont say anything

Re: 250hpdi RODBOLT help.

let a my dad use the boat and asked him if he had done anything, he said he added oil. he used suzuki oil instead of yamaha. he used it for about 1 hour before i got it back and used it. i read in the manual that it is critical to use the correct oil. do you think that maybe the plugs were fouled because that different oil burns differently in the engine? thanks again guys

Re: 250hpdi RODBOLT help.

ok lets go over how to set the audible on an HPDI 2 stroke.
we can crank it with the lanyard removed,or the stop circuit shorted.
audible and no start.
we can over heat it.
battery low
run the engine tank low on oil visual on the tach as well.
we can dissconect the engine oil tank while its running.
or we can get a water detect from the engine mounted filter.
this can also be a false detect.
this will ONLY set the audible IF your in nuetral.
in gear you get NO audible for water detect when running.
dumb as crap but I dont design them I just fix them.
switching to suzuki oil wont affect much at all and that Z250 does NOT have an o2 sensor so I would not sweat the oil.
yes that engine will tend to foul plugs at low speeds, make SURE all updates have been done on the oiling system.
that motor was covered by at least 3 updates and one included an ECU.
the oil pump has been changed twice since it was new.
the latest oil pump is identified by the number on the pump arm and the tech bulliten from about 2 years ago.
these updates are regaurdless of warrenty status and are code 90 updates.
take your engine primary ID to your local dealer and have it checked for any outstanding updates.
your oil pump arm for Z and LZ 250 should read 60V13 and for a VZ250 60V03.last bulliten was #o2007-011 there were others older.
make sure all have been done.
