I recently purchased a new boat with a Mercury 25HP EFI 4 stroke motor. After following the break in instructions in the Mercury owner?s manual, the motor began experiencing severe ?oil dilution?. It had appx. 10 hours of run time at that point. I called Mercury and was instructed to take it back to the dealer. I did so and they changed the oil, filter and foot lube. After running boat about 1.5hrs. the problem happened again (oil overflowing from dipstick port). Took it back to the dealer 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] time. They changed oil only and instructed me to run boat hard for another hour or more. They said the problem was due to rings not seating properly and if they didn?t seat this time they would have to spray an additive in motor to help rings seat. I took it straight to the lake. After about an hour, motor had severe oil escaping. Took it back 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] time. Picked it up again and took it to lake same day. After a couple hours run time I loaded boat on the trailer and took it home. Foot was covered with oil, but this time the oil was a little more than 1/2qt. low rather than overflowing from oil dipstick port as before.
My question is, do I have a lemon? It only has 16 hours and it?s been at the dealer almost as much as I have had it.
Should I demand a new motor or at m in. a new powerhead?
Thanks for any suggestions.
