25HP Evinrude - starving for gas

I'm a novice boat owner who recently purchased a pontoon with a 1991 25hp Evinrude - outboard.<br /><br />Here's my problem: <br />Boat starts o.k. and seems to idle fine. However, when I let the engine run for 1-2 minutes the engine struggles for gas and eventually the engine dies. I examined the fuel system and found that the prime is lost in the fuel line primer ball each time the engine dies. <br /><br />Note: if I pump the gas line (primer ball) and feed the gas into the engine manually each time it's about to die, the motor will keep running. This is why I'm guessing the engine is starved for fuel.<br /><br />So far i've replaced the gas tank, gas line with primer ball, and fuel pump Assy. The problem is still there.<br /><br />Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Morgan.<br /><br />Sure sounds like you are pulling a vacuum in the tank, but there are other possibilities.<br /><br />First, be sure that the tank is vented and that the vent is open.<br /><br />You may have a sticking float needle. See what happens if you tap the carb bowl when she is starting to run out of fuel.<br /><br />Another possibility is weak pulsing of the fuel pump from the crankcase. Take the fuel inlet to the carb off and stick it in a bottle. See if the pump squirts strong jets into the bottle. If you get strong spurts, the problem is in your carb. If not, it is in tank venting or fuel pump pulsing.<br /><br />Good luck.
