25hp Johnson water pump kit question?

I just purchased a water pump kit #0395270 and I am wondering if there is supposed to be a seal that comes along with the kit for the top housing? The old one I took out has a seal in it and the Johnson/Evinrude web site shows that there should be one in the kit as well. The new top cover is somewhat different from the old one in that there is no way to get the seal into it. I hope this makes sense. BTW I have a J25RCIM ser#E5431411. Thanks
