25hp Johnson ?

Just picked up this outboard and it came with a OMC Key throttle control..(not sure what it is called) Anyway, there are no wires for hooking up to the/a Batt. or to the motor itself. The only cables are the forward and reverse, gas throttle and a electric plug. I can see where all that goes, however, For now I want to see if I can get it to turn over. How do I or where do I hook up the battery cables + and - to the engine? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Some pics would be awesome!

Your motor is a 1984 and here is a pic. The negative battery wire is grounded to the power head.
There is a neutral safety switch, and a starter switch. That meter box does not apply.

Yea, you can start it with jumper cables for test purposes.
1) Per Cofe's diagram, clamp the negative battery cable to the starter bracket or engine ground.
2) Just momentarily touch the starter terminal (#1) with the positive battery cable until the engine starts (I wouldn't crank it longer than 10 seconds or you could burnout your starter). IMO, it shouldn't take more than a couple seconds to start a cold engine.

Thanks guys! I will try the jumper cable...and see If I can get her to turn over. However, After looking the motor over I now see where the postive cable goes...on the slave sol...but I do not see where the Negative wire goes on the power head..do you know where on the power head? Thanks again!!

Dont know what year yours is but you can put it on one of the starter mount bolts.just fine a easily accessible one.

Well I jumped her and the started worked fine however, she would not turn over..seazed up!... Good news is I laid her down added a few drops of Krowl oil in the cyl. and broke her free tonight..shes turning over fine now..off to get some new plugs and lowerend oil etc...etc..Hopefully she will run with out to much work/time/money...other than the basics......Thanks again for all your help!
