I am looking at repowering an aluminum boat that I recenty acquired. It had no motor, and the max hp is 25 per the plate.

I want to get an OMC because that is what I have used in the past. I don't mind having something older, as I am mechanically capable and have no problem reading a manual.

So....before I start looking are their pros/cons to the 70's thru the early 90's motors? i.e thru hub exhaust.....different ignitions........

The 1977 and later 25's had CDI ignition, but it wasn't until the mid 80's before they had thru-hub exhaust.

I would try and get as new as the pocket book would allow. What ever you look at, do take the time and have a trusted wrench check it out for you or if you know what to do to check the engine out, do it yourself.

The 25 hp during most of the 70s was a tiny 22 cu. in model. It wasn't until 1978 or 79 that the displacement was increased to the same as the 35hp.
