I posted another thread about this, but only got 2 responses.
I got my 1984 25hp merc XD out on the water for the first time. as i give it throttle, it dies right before i starts to plane... if i back off the throttle, it continues to run.
When i purchased the motor, it had not run in 3 years, first thing i did was take the carb off and soaked and cleaned it. when i did this, i did not rebuild the carb. i put all new fuel lines on it also and changed spark plugs. then i put it back together and it fires up and idles perfect until i try to plane.
so, not sure what to do, should I get a carb rebuild kit as shown here:
