Would someone be kind enough to tell me if the engine and intermediate housing must be installed together or if the intermediate housing with the rear engine mounts can already be in the boat so that the engine can be put in by itself? I removed it as one unit per the manual but looks like one can do it seperately. 1980 21 foot Sunrunner chevy 350 with OMC I/O. Thanks in advance.

Re: 260hp OMC installation

You can do it! Install your rear boot to give the IH some additional support. Make sure that your drive splines are greeeezed up good and that the coupler splines are clean so that it will slip in easy. May want to have a second person to rock/rotate the ball gear as you mate them up.

Howsome ever, all that being said, if you got them both out already, why not put them in together. It would be easier that way. I just pulled mine together and that's the way they'll go back in. The only reason I did it that way was to get to the stringers in my resto project.

Boomyal
Thanks for the quick response. I am using a modified car engine hoist and it did not like all the weight so I thought for safety reasons I would do it seperately if possible.
