I have a 1986 silverton converible. I have for the past few seasons had a pecular problem with the starboard engine. It does not run above 120-130F... The Port engine runs about 165-170.. I have changed the Thermostats on both, and then on the Port engine a couple times. Used a laser temp reader to verify that the one engine is indeed running cold and its not the guages. The cooler running engine seems to have a bit of moisture on the valve covers at the end of the season but not in the oil per se...its bothersome that the engine is not getting up to temp and I cant for the life of me figure out what might be causing the engine to run colder. I have cheched the seat for the t stat so thats not letting water pass and I know the t stat is good.. 180F... so there must be another bypass taking place. The boat is raw water cooled and the pumps / impellers are all in good shape... keep in mind the issue is one engine wont run to temp,, its alway cold. Runs great, but cant seem to figure out whats going on. Are there any other restrictors or ?? in the water system that would allow a by pass to occur.??

Don't know about Crusaders, but I know Merc and Volvo engines get the bypass hole in the thermostat housing plugged up and causes that problem.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Got any Pictures,..??

I donno much 'bout Crusaders either, but I'm just questionin' yer temps, in general...

Bein' Raw water cooled, I'd think you'd use 160? t-stats, 'n look for the 165/ 170? yer seein'....

180? t-stats are usually a closed coolin' thing...
