Another question for don or vp pro
I just yanked my 270 apart to check the rest of it out, gears bearings ect. I pulled the prop shaft and my question is on the oil pump impeller. Is this attached to the shaft or is it free floating. I think it should be attached to the shaft, ie shaft spins and pumps oil to the top. Mine is floating on the shaft (spins on the shaft), could be a good reason for clutch slipping.
Actually answered my own question again.
The pump impeller is attached to the gear with a drive pin. Pin is sheared so no oil going to the top of the drive. Not sure if this is the cause of the drive slipping but good thing it was as im sure this would not have lasted long before it completely destroyed itself.
