The guy at the marine store wants $9.98 a quart for my outdrive oil. That seems high to me.My book says sae 10w-30 or 10w-40.Can I get that at any automotive store?what would be better for me?The 30 or 40.Thanks

Volvo now recommends 30W oil, they do package it as Gear Lube 30W for higher bucks, but it is still engine oil.

Hi Treboro301... For what it's worth, I just used Pennsoil 30 weight that I picked up at Walmart. From what I can tell from the posts I've read, any current 30 weight automotive oil will work. Btw, thanks for the info about finding the engine drain plugs. I'm up on Vancouver Island in Canada right now and am going to use your mirror idea when I get back home.

Thanks guys.I used 30 weight as well.Went ahead and filled it thru the filler hole with a funnel.I think I'll stick to that method for now on.It was very easy and very clean.

And recheck it after a few hours to account for air pockets & settling etc.

I put in the required 2.8 quarts and the level was a couple of inches higher then what it should be.I ran the motor in nuetral and put it in gear(both foward and reverse).I rechecked and it was still high.Do you think that air pockets would explain that? I drained up the drive and let it go for over 20 minutes while I worked on other stuff.

You got too much in there, you will need to drain a bit out.
