OK where to start. I had my 25 Johnson sloten off my boat about 3 months ago. I bought a 38 spl Johnson from a guy about a 2 months ago. I said the motor was fine it just needed some new motor mounts, rebuilded the carb, and a rectifer. I found everything but motor mounts. And every Johnson dealer around here said that they would have to install it. And wanted 85 dollars per hour. I can't aford that so I looked on craiglists for motor mounts when I found this 1980 Evinrude 35hp and my 28 spl is a 86. So I went and looked at it the motor mounts was in perfect condition and she want a hundred dollars.The OUtboard has not been cranked in over 15 years since her father died it just sat in the garage. I got it home yesterday start to take the 28 spl a-part to change the motor mounts and every bolt broken even using PB Blaster. In the 35hp she said her father said something about the clutch dog starting to go bad before he died. I was wanting to know what would be better to just exchange motor mounts and find a way to get the rest of the screws out. Or to replace the whole lower unitwith the 35 to the 28 and replace the clutch dog. And how would I do that. Thank you for all the help and sorry for the long post.
