I have a 1983 280 penta and need to know if I can remove the outdrive if it is half way up, Sat in water for 6 years, needs rebuild, Or do I need to get all down before pulling it off.
I suppose you could do it with the tilt up but seems like it would be more difficult. Have you tried jumping the tilt motor to a battery to see if you can get it to go down? Assuming you have the two wire motor, one to positive, one to negative. Switch the leads to go up or down.
Thanks I will try that today, seems like everything is going to be froze up from sitting, Starter, engine, electric motors, I can't complain for 500.00 1983 ciera subridge 2450 right?
Hooked up battery, With the key it just clicks up or down, power straight to tilt motor and motor works in both directions but the drive does not move, sounds like it does but nothing
If you're sure that it won't raise and lower by it's own means, you could allways remove the tilt mechanism.
If you're even thinking about that, support the outdrive first and get the weight off of the tilt mechanism. In fact, it may be best to remove the lower unit from the drive to lessen the possibility of getting hurt or damaging something.
