28hp Johnson, 1986, Water Diverter Question

I am concerned that I did not receive the correct water diverter replacement parts. I removed the cylinder head, removed the old water diverters (bad shape), cleaned the inside well, and tried to install the new diverters. But, they only go in about 2/3 of the way then stop. I tried hammering them in with a wooden dowel, which did not work. I lubricated both the inside of the housing and the diverters themselves. I don't think they should be this hard and have concluded I got the wrong parts. Should it be this hard to get them in?

Note: The part nos. for the parts I received were 335602 (short one) and 335603 (longer ones).

I would appreciate any help.

Re: 28hp Johnson, 1986, Water Diverter Question

Guys,

I wanted to check back in and let you know how things worked out. I ended up calling around and finding the original water diverters from Sea-Way, at the suggestion of Bombardier's customer service person (to his credit). All Bombardier had was the replacement part, which was a solid core diverter that just would not fit. So, I ordered the original parts, and they fit fine. So, I should be back on the water soon.
