I recently bought a 290 duoprop to replace my 280 sp. this is powered by a 350. They say it is a totally different experience. Can anyone tell me what I can expect?

Re: 290 duoprop

hi....welcome to iboats...

good call....

depending on the boat size.....in general you can expect a better manoeuvrability around the dock....a really good hole shot.....

but you will sacrifice a little top end.

I agree that the hull size and engine will help tell you what to expect.
Disagree that you will sacrifice top end.
Lots of boats that won't fully plane will benefit from the Duo Prop and this typically means more speed.

Re: 290 duoprop

My boat has had DP's the whole time so I have nothing to compare to, but you will probably be able to hold on plane at slower speeds. It will take off like it is being driven by gears on a rail, hardly any slip, so no "spooling" of the prop before anything happens, the boat just moves on out.

I am kind of partial to mine!

Re: 290 duoprop

I had a dyslexic moment with mine once, had hit the trim UP instead of DOWN and took off fast, it took me a second or so to react, probably hit a 30 degree angle with not much of the hull in the water  . I do not recommend it, scared the bejeezus out of me.

Thank guys. So far I'm impressed. My boat is 18' long. By the sound of what you guys are saying its going to be a wild ride.

People that upgrade from a single prop drive to a DP in their boat, NEVER even think about going back to a single prop drive.
