I think it is an early 90's 2 hp one cyl. I found it in an old shed and tried to fire it up just for kicks. It looks to have just under 40psi compression and a weak spark. I got it to kick over and fire a few times but I want to know if I am even close with these comp numbers before moving on.
Any ideas?

40psi is terrible... I'm not really up to speed with the little engines but I would assume you want at LEAST 80psi or more. Maybe a stuck ring or rust, corrosion, scoring in the cylinder. You can try tossing some oil down the plug hole and checking compression again to see if it improves.

Eagh, chucked it in the dump. I added up what a ring kit and gaskets would cost, bought a 4 hp 4 stroke.

My guess is that you threw away an easily repairable engine, V12.

This psi paranoia is a pain in the butt. 40psi is not good on a recently run engine that has been decarbed, but on one you found in a shed it is acceptable as a starting point from a rope start engine.

If it is a bone fide OMC engine, get it out and send it to me. I will pay the shipping.
