I'm making a jack-plate out of 4 aluminum angles and was wondering if 2x10 pinewood would be strong enough for a 20hp.

Or I have to buy Plywood?

Ply will not split.
I had a 2x10 split on me on a test stand.

For that application I would absolutely stick with ply.

You noticed in the link he used plywood, for good reason. The pine 2 x 6 will split especially with a piece that short.

Will it be strong enough? Sure. At least for a while.

Will you cry when you have to buy a new 20 HP outboard because the old one's on the bottom? Hopefully.

But, you will have saved like $50 or so by not using ply- So you can always put that towards the new motor :)

You can get it in 1/2 and 1/4 sheets at Lowes, if you have no use for the rest of a full sheet.

Not sure if theres a lowes in Canada( need to update my profile)

They come in pallets and top ones cheaper because of metal straps holding them... even the second or third go cheaper.

35$ first quality

Guess il try plywood thanks for the ideas/knowledge

One quick question...

What do I place between the boards to glue them? Is yellow wood glue any good?
