Well looks like my alternator has finally quit working. I took it to an alternator and starter repair shop, and after ordering a few parts, the guy said he wouldn't be able to repair it to where he felt comfortable with it. He told me i'd be better off purchasing a new one. My question is what is the part number, and can i replace it with an AC Delco one? I looked in the manual, and not having much luck.

Re: 3.0 Alternator

Howdy,

ANY good marine alternator will work if it will fit.

You can buy marine type (SAE J1171, electrically sealed) 10si (GM type single wire) alternators on ebay (they're new) for about $50 + shipping.

Just do a search. Otherwise, you get get one right here on iBoats, and many other online retailers.....

Regards,

Rick

How do I make the single wire ones work? mine has 4 wires, a ground, an orange (back to the battery), a red/purple and purple i believe. What would i do with the other 2 wires?

For the lack of not knowing what happens to the use of the wires not being hooked up? Besides being taped out of the way.

Re: 3.0 Alternator

one is called the "sense lead" the other is "ignition switched" .All they do is turn the alt on. The single wire turns itself on at about 1000rpm and stays on after that ,untill the motor is turned off

will this keep the voltmeter from working. if they can just be done away with, what real reason are they there?
