Re: ? 3.0 bayliner ?

Thats what I wanted to do to my old WEBBCRAFT I had over 10 years ago, The 3.0 was just enough power but I waned more.

To answer your question....What model boat do you have? And did Bayliner offer that model with the bigger engine?

My guess is they did as take for example my BAYLINER 185. Its stock motor is the 3.0 and you can get this boat with an 8 cyclinder mercruiser engine if you really wanted to. Mine has the 4.3 wich is WAY more then suffeciant for this boat.

So this boat is able to run as designed with everythign from the 3.0 to the 5.7

I also have a BAYLINER 2755 cruiser with the largest motor that was available at the time for it 7.4 mercruiser.

Ive seen many of these with a 5.7 350 so if I ever wanted to I could repower it with a smaller motor, I problably wouldnt thouugh and yes down sizing a motor is "easier" then upsizing as you do have to know if a hull is rated for a given horse power.

But in your case most bayliners were available with various engines and I do beleive the hulls / transom's are all designed the same as when the hull is molded I dont think they are specfically designed for one size motor especially the smalles available. It would be designed to work with the largest motor as this makes the buildign process much easier. A one size fits all approach.

A lot of infor to answer your question with just a simple YES :)

Anything can be done with enough money to throw at the problem.
The gear ratio will have to be changed in the outdrive. NO, just changing the prop won't work. If it did, the manufacturers would do it instead of change ratio's.
New exhaust Y needed for a V engine. IF one is available for your particular transom shield.
Your V6 or V will need a coupler, and complete exhaust system, if you are trying to stick a car or truck engine in a a boat, it will also need a marine ignition system, alternator, starter, fuel pump, and carb at least. Automotive parts are dangerous and illegal on boats.
