I have a '89 3.0 and am wondering the "proper" way to start both cold and warm. The no EFI and eletric choke is a new deal for me. Just wanted to prevent flooding and its associated headaches.

If anyone can suggest their methods for both cold and warm starts it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Cold then disengage the throttle from the shifter. Pump the throttle a few times to set the choke and allow accerlator pump to squirt in some fuel. Push the throttle down what you think is about 1200 rpms and turn the key but keep your hand on the throttle so when it starts you can ensure it does not over rev.

Warm engine before shutting off I disengage the throttle from the shifter and set idle to 1000 to 1200 rpms then turn it off.

To restart just turn the key, Mine starts is less than one revelution. Slow to idle and engage the shifter and drive.

With the engine warm, should I have to set throttle only at 1200 rpm, or just start in neutral, ie no throttle, not in geat?

Thanks

It should start in neutral with no throttle and not in gear. Reason I do what I do is starts faster set to around 1200. I do it when trolling and have main engine shut off. If hook a fish or get hung up just starts faster with just the turn of the key and ready to clear other boats or back to snag.
