I rebuilt my 1989 3.0 in the spring. I had a local shop do the machine work on the block. While at the shop they removed the dip stick tube. My question is does anyone know what the measurement is from the block to the top of the tube? I want to make sure the tube is at the correct depth in the block

Don't know the measurement but the original tube should only go in to the point it stops due to a boss, or to the spot where a bolt holds the clamp.

Did the shop loose your dipstick tube? If they did loose the tube you can either get a new one from Merc (give us your serial number) or put a stiff wire down the hole until is reaches the bottom of the oil pan. Take that measurement and find one which goes will go the same distance less 1/4 to 3/8 inch

Here's a drawing that Don S put up awhile back.
In any case, if you change your oil and filter (short filter) and add 4 us quarts that should give you your full level.
