3.0 Engine revs in reverse and eventually catches. This just started yesterday

I have a 1998 pontoon with a 3.0 L and a Alpha 1 outdrive. I have had the boat for 3 years and other than a couple of hard to replace starters, it has been a great boat.

Yesterday the boat started having problems shifting into reverse. The shifter seems to be working fine, but the boat stays in nuetral when shifted. After I rev the engine a couple of times, it eventually jumps into reverse (Hard).

I did not receive the motor manual with this used boat. Would this just be a cable adjustment?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Ayuh,... Adjusting it Might get you another lap,...
But,...
It's no doubt the begining of the End for the lower shift Cable....
