3.0 ford 4cyl.omc cobra no reverse

i just bought this 1990 sunbird. It has the 3.0 ford 4cyl motor with the cobra and the revese is out. looks like the guy i bought it from had the same problem and i was wondering how i can make this durable and not having to do this everytime i take it out. can the gears be interchangeable with stronger gears and i need help fixing this if anyone has pics and talk me thru this i would appreciate it very much. thanks mike

Check page two of this forum Tazzz has the same problem same engine and same drive as you, maybe you can combine threads and join in somehow without hyjacking his thread.
But you should be taking a close look at the lower cable, maybe get lucky because if your reverse gear is blown up you'll require a total rebuild, any metal sparklies in the oil? grinding noises or other starange happenings?

Heres the same one i gave the other guy read it and re-read it. But usually it's the lower cable, that needs replacing.

If it's a 3.0l,... It's Not a Ford...

If it is a Ford,... It Ain't a 3.0l....

I missed that 2.3 ford 3.0 chevy. Ether way cable, if not bigger problems in the lower unit, pray it's the cable.
