3.0 Hard Start When Warm - Electric Choke Failure?

3.0 in my Glastron.
Cold starts like a champ.

Warm starts? Not so much.

After pulling the BFA off today to see if I could see anything illogical, I see my choke is full-closed when warm. That explains the tell-tale fuel smell of a flooded engine. Back the choke butterfly off with a finger and it starts right up and idles.
So, for some reason, the choke closes when trying to start warm.

Electric choke adjustment?
If so, how to adjust?

Thanks all.

Chances are it doesn't need adjustment, It needs repair. The heating element (if electric) or the bi-metal spring ( if mechanical) is defective. You set the choke on a stone cold engine. If it has been run, let it cool to ambient. Then hold the throttle open a bit and see what the butterfly does. It should close but upon starting should pull open a bit. As the engine continues to warm (or the heater warms the choke) it should open fully so the butterfly stands perfectly vertical. If it does not, you need to fix what's malfunctioning which accounts for the hard warm starts. Move the throttle full open on flooded hot starts.

Had same issue with my 3.0 - new choke thermostat off eBay was a $20 part. Check that you have 12 v supplied to choke thermostat when running. If so then the thermostat is bad. In a pinch you can turn it so lean choke won't close at all, first start of the day takes longer but works fine.

Your plugs are probably fouled from choke staying closed.

Could just be assembled wrong. Pull off the choke and look. Either the spring is intact or it's not. If it is, someone pulled off the choke, and didn't assemble it properly putting it back in/on
