Hi again guys, After the top dogs on here got me back up to performance with my boat i have another question.

3.0l mercrusier Serial no L663000. I have always had a loud clatter from the valve train side of my engine usually starting around 3500 RPM. Now i have adjusted the valves as per specifications i done pressure test after for piece of mind that i was still getting the same pressures on the cylinders which i was.

Now im sure its just the hydraulic lifters getting on in years. My question would be would it be ok just to change the lifters and then run them in as per a new engine?

Or is there anything but another valve adjustment to try?

If your oil pressure is good (at least 35 psi @ 3500 rpm) and you have adjusted the lifters correctly, then yes you can just replace the lifters.

An update on this incase anyone is having the same issues. Replaced all lifters today, i had measured the gap on all valve studs before replacing them so i could set them to what they were until i rebuilt everything and run engine to operating temperature. It was a complete success as soon as i run the engine it was the quietest
the engine has ever been. Ran to operating temperature and then re set all valves. Ran the engine for 20 mins at 1500-2000 rpm.

It was all good, first thing in the morning im changing the oil and oil filter.

Checked all old lifters for any wear or scoring on the area where the cam runs no indents or scoring of any kind. Plan to strip them down at a later date just to check to see if there is anything obvious inside.
