I have a 1983 3.0 I/O with upgrade electronic distributor, about a year or so back I had an loss of spark issue and found the coil was bad. Replaced the coil with a non resisted coil as recommended and everything worked great. The last outing everything worked great after some difficulty getting the boat started. The hard to start issue was I thought I had flooded it. After about a three hour ride the motor began to stumble then after a short while it stalled and could not get it restarted so we came in on the kicker motor. Next day I checked all the wiring, cap, rotor, everything looked great, turned the key and the motor started right up fine. Again after a couple hour ride the stumble came back with eventual stalling. We sat for about an hour letting things cool off then it restarted and ran perfect for the 3/4 hour ride back to the dock. It appears to be the coil again as it was quite hot when the engine stalled. Going thru two coils in a short time makes me wonder if I am overlooking something else. Any suggestions as to what to look for would be greatly appreciated. Just for the record all plug wires, plugs, cap, rotor etc are replaced yearly or two years at best if signs of wear are present. No water in gas, all filters are new this season.

Ayuh,.... Bring yer test light or meter with ya,.... When it Dies, check for Power at the coil's (+) terminal,.....

Have ya "Checked" for spark, when it's dead,..??

Yes the coil had power on the + side, checked for spark by just pulling a plug wire and cranking.....no spark or extremely weak that is what made me think coil again.
Just wondering if I am overlooking something. Also did a voltage check when motor was running and charge rate is 14.7 volts with batteries fully charged. I am wondering if I may have a voltage regulator problem........could this high voltage going to the coil cause a problem? Thanks again for all the great help as always..
Electrical is my weak area, but mechanics are a piece of cake.
