Need you thoughts on a 3.0 ignition problem I have with my engine. Took out the Dist to clean it up and paint it. Put it back in an timed it with #1 cylinder at tdc and Dist cap and rotory button pointing to the #1 plug. It ran for about 10 mins and when I attempted to set timing with light I notice that the timing mark on tdamper would not stabilize at either 4 or 6 deg. Now i it have current to the points, current at the coil wire when I ground it. But i get no current going to any of the plugs. from my Dist. I have used 2 different Dist Caps 3 different Coils, new plug wires along with 2 different rotor buttons but still no current to the plugs. I did not take off the advance weights or springs when cleaning...Anyone have any suggestions what I have missed or need to look for in getting to run...Thks

Sounds like the points. Try this, take cap off, place a piece of insulating martial between the points. Place coil center wire near ground. Turn on the ignition and with a piece of insulated wire quickly jumper across the points. You should get a spark every time you remove the wire. If you do, remove the insulating material and crank it over, should get spark, if not bad points, replace or clean with an ignition points file.

Your points need to go to ground - that's how they create the spark - they temporarily ground out the coil. When you painted the distributor it could be you messed up the ground path somehow. Just something to check.

Ths I have a dwell meter and going to try and set them with it tomorrow, you think the timing gear could also be a problem with the points setting also, I think it may be one of those fiber gears.

Not likely a timing gear, you would still have spark if it skipped a tooth or two, just not at the right time.Have you checked the shift interruptor switch to make sure it's not triggered?
