I've searched and can't find a good answer. What octane should I be running. The dealer told me 87 was fine...but with my recent dieseling I'm not sure.<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Tom
87 octane is what your owners manual recommends. Merc sets them up that way because most places don't have a choice.<br />Did you reset your idle speed from 900 to 1000 down to 650 to 700 and try it? You will still need to idle for a minute or 2 before shutting off, but it should cure your problem.<br /><br />Just in case you don't have an owners manual, here is a link to a 2001 manual which is basically the same as your 2000 engine and drive.<br />Page 36 talks about fuel recommendations.<br /><br /> 2001 Owners manual
