3.0 mercruiser fuel pump issues

I think my mechanical fuel pump has went out on my 1988 baretta. I was thinking about installing an inline electric pump. What are some of your thoughts about doing this?

Ayuh,... The original lasted for 25 Years,....

Why would ya wanta change a Proven set-up,..??..??

If anything, put on another mechanical pump, 'n add a canister type fuel filter....
