3.0 Mercruiser wont run right after new feul pump

OK,here is the story.
Boat ran good at idle,just would not plane out(chuged and then died)
Saw fuel in the tell tale so replaced fuel pump.

Then it would not start after that,saw alot of gas in the carb after trying to start.
So I took the float out and checked the needle and seat,didnt look that bad as far as gunk. ( Simi cleaned the carb the best I could with out a kit.
Put it back together and it did start . ( also cleaned the plugs as they were black and fouled from gas)

Now it will run but like crap,wont idle and after it dies noticed alot of gas still dripping in the carb.

Do I need to just rebuild the carb with a kit?

That would be on thing to do. You already had the top off, so it needs a new gasket. Since you cleaned PART of it and it at least started, you can bet the rest needs it too. Was there any water in the carb? or even worse, was it all water and little gas? That would sure make it run like crap.

Do you have a water seperating fuel filter installed? They don't come with one from the factory.

Do you have a year for this 3.0L Mercruiser? They have changed over the years.

There was no water in the carb,seems like it ran better before I put the new fuel pump on.
The engine serial number is OF065969 ( assume its a 96 model)

Could the new fuel pump be over powering the carb?

Ayuh,... Only if the carb needs to be Rebuilt or Replaced...

Hook up a fuel pump pressure gauge and see what the pressure is
