I tore the 140 down, took off the head, manifold, basically everything down to a longblock. Cylinder bores looked great, pistons looked good from up top, and the valves in the head looked good as well. Under the valve cover there was water mixed with oil up there. I took off the cover that is infront of the pushrods and i didnt see any cracks. I also pressure tested the engine and didnt get any leaks. The head gasket was in poor shape and was extremely brittle. Only think i can think is that the water was leaking from a water passage into the pushrod holes as one pushrod was rusty and none of the other ones were.....Any other ideas?

if you had the head + block pressure checked ,
change head gasket and stop worrying that was your problem .

my guess is you left the block in the boat? if so make sure you send the head to a machine shop, have it cleaned, magged for cracks, pressure tested and surfaced and if you have a lot of hours have them do a valve job. Do it right before you put it back together and you will avoid issues.

The only thing i guess that is bothering me is im not sure if i did the pressure test correctly. Does all the water have to be out of the engine block? If so how do you do it? I did 15psi for about a hour and didnt loose anything.....thanks

If you're not loosing pressure, you should have NO leaks anywhere, including a water jacket to pushrod.
Pressure will leak or not leak nomatter if there is water in the block or not. If there is a leak either water or air will come out.
