Finally got my boat back from the mechanic after replacing the ignition module and pickup coil. Engine seems to run great, however when I am at idle or fast idle and I try to accelerate slowly to get up on plane the engine speeds up for a short amount of time then goes back to idle. If I mash the throttle down it seems to accelerate good and have plenty of power.
Has anyone seen anything like this? If it helps at all the previous owner replaced the factory carb with a Holley 2BBL carb.

Thanks

Re: 3.0 Throttle Question

Don,
Thanks for the info, the only reason I think it was replaced is the entire motor is the charcoal color except for the carb is the bright red.

If the intermediate is plugged up, is that something that can be remedied by a good cleaning with something like chemtool, or do you think a rebuild kit is necessary? Is there a difference in a Napa rebuild kit for these carbs vs. a genuine Volvo kit?

On a side note I find it funny that that carburetor is over 1000 bucks through Volvo.

Thanks again

Re: 3.0 Throttle Question

A rebuild and a complete cleaning on a carb is the same thing. You disassemble, clean, confirm all passages are clear, and all parts are within specs. To many people think a carb cleaning is just spray some wonder product on it and all will be fine. It never is.

Your EF model engine was the last of the gray engines, from 2001 they went back to red. Volvo used the Holley 2300 carb for 7 ot 8 years with the red engines before moving to the Damon carb. So yes, you have a Volvo carb there.

PS: I don't set prices, just help people fix their problems.
