3.0 valve lifters

Motor runs fine, but has noise coming from rear portion of engine. Sounds like valve train. Every once in a while, seems to drop a cylinder then picks up and runs fine.
I'm thinking I've got weak lifters. Sound reasonable?
Is it a good idea to replace lifters and leave original cam in place? Appreciate any thoughts.

most likely is it NOT your lifters. could be valve stem is rusty and hanging in the head from a leaking manifold/riser joint, mis-adjusted rockers, or something else.

I'm thinking same...valve sticking open.
