Just bought a used and well maintained 2004 Chap 180 ssi and the previous owner walked me through all of the maintenance he did to it.
It ran great for several outings and on the last one, hot day after wakeboaring, pulled around the bend near the house and put into idle while I trimmed up. It was idling fast and smelled like some gas. We shut it off and it dieseled on shutdown. Blowered and attempted to restart. No crank, no lightoff.
Next day, cranked but no light off.
I lowered the boat into the water from the lift to cover the water intakes, and engine cranked but did not turn over. Tonight I pulled the plugs. They were all old and oily, so I cleaned them and reinstalled all, and got good but slightly intermittent spark from the two that I tested while cranking outside and hooked up to the distributor. Battery tests strong and starter sounds good.
I checked the throttle kill switch but I'm pretty sure its not a culprit since I got spark. Going to purchase new plugs and reinstall tomorrow, as well as plug wires, since they all looked to be old. My next thoughts are the fuel system, but I am less familiar with that.
Need some help, my expertise is limited
