Raw water pump went bad engine ran hot 200,so i ran slow back to the dock, replaced pump pulled all hoses and flushed out looking for broken rubber peices from old pump, also flushed the outdrive,no water in oil at this time, hooked up and went boating, engine ran 160, i had a no wake zone for about 1/2 hr. I droped ancor and turn off engine, about 1/2hr.went to re start engine would not start, starter was having a hard time turing engine over,i check oil to find water in oil.A call to sea tow got me back to the dock,(well worth the money to have) got home maybe blowen head gasket pulled head to find water in all my pistons, gasket looked ok to me,intake & ex. Looked ok.what could this be cracked intake? Cracked head$$$ ? What do you all think?

Howdy,

Welcome aboard!

First of all, this is the OMC forum. Maybe a MOD will move it for you.

You should post your year model and serial/model number too. It helps to figure out what you have.

Having said all that, the head gasket isn't always the culprit in a marine engine when there's water in the oil. How much are we talking about by the way..... Enough to cause the oil to appear to be overfilled? (milky oil?)

Water on top of all the pistons might be a cracked manifold. (it is an integral manifold)

What sort of shape is the manifold/riser in? Is this a salt water boat? Was it winterized last Fall?

Regards,

Rick

Cracked head$$$ ?

Ayuh,... It could be the manifold, but I'm guessin' the head, around the exhaust valve guildes...

the oil appear to be overfilled about 4"? (milky oil) about 1" water in pistons
What sort of shape is the manifold/riser in? (12 years old) i did remove the riser and wash out an clean the same time i replaced the water pump and replace the rubber hose from the riser to the exhaust pipe. this is a salt water boat,i use this boat year around and flush after every use.

The manifold and riser are probably the reason for water in the cylinders, just from 12 years in salt water. They normally last 6-8 year. Not 12.
Lots of water in the oil is usually from freezing, which can also take out the manifold and riser.
Isolate the block from the manifold and pressure check the block would be the first test, maybe you can hear the leak.

I found my riser had rusted and let water back into the pistons when i was trying to restart, psi tested intake manifold @50 pound and hold, the mounting plate had minor rust damage,i am buying a new riser and new head gasket and valve cover gasket,i also removed the valve assy.and laped each valve to the seats, thanks for the info.maybe i wlll be back in the water soon.untill the sea salt eats some more parts..
