3.0L Cylinder Head

ENGINE: 1994 OMC COBRA GL 3.0L 181 GM MARINE EXTRA LONGBLOCK 4cyl

I removed the cylinder head and had it tested and came back bad. I used the casing #'s from the existing head and bought a new cylinder head (casting # 2776954). After installing it, and running it, I realized that the ports on the head and exhaust manifold were different sizes. The engine ran really good though? After more dealing with the guy to exchange it for the right head (casting#14096620) he said 1/2 of price credit! I said no. So now I have a head that runs but not the right one. People have told me the head will work fine just cut away the gasket to fit the head ports. I'm thinking of selling the 2776954 cylinder head myself. Or should I use what I have?

Ayuh,........... I fail to see a Problem..............

That little motor has been making 130/ 140hp for 40 years with any 1 of the many Heads that have been used........

People have told me the head will work fine just cut away the gasket to fit the head ports.

If the Gasket matches Either the Head or the Manifold,........
I don't think I'd do that.......

So the head should do just fine no need to go after the small port head #620 casting. The only problem I thought would be loss of power... or blow out the manifold gasket with the gas setting there? Or just die in the middle of the lake? Anybody else ever run into this problem or ever tried to get a #620 GM 181 cylinder head?

Here is something to consider... I have to look for a specific head for my 3.0 when my head was cracked. I found this pic that helped me find the RIGHT one.

Yes, any will work, but there are CORRECT ones for your specific app too:
