I drained the exhaust manifold and heat exchanger for the first time this morning. This may be a dumb question, but is it normal for little water to come out of the manifold, and what did come out was black with carbon/soot? The last time I had the boat out, I ran it several hours in fresh water, although the previous owner always used the boat in the saltchuck. The boat was re-powered in about 1996, and has about 250 hours use since then.

Thanks:/

It's quite normal for the water to be black, it's also normal for the manifold to plug up. Pull the plug and take a small screw driver or something and probe the hole and make sure it's not plugged. Do the same thing on the block and any other drain plugs.

Thanks Don. I used a stiff wire and could not get hardly any water to come out. The heat exchanger drained out fast and clear.
