I have a 1998 Mercruiser 3.0L engine that runs hot. When the thermostat is in the temp goes up to 200 degrees and as soon as you pull the thermostat out it drops to under 100 degrees. I just replaced the impeller which had broken fins on it but that did not help. I am thinking the thermostat which was new is bad. Any other suggestions. Thermostat housing? Exhaust elbow?

THanks

There was one big piece still in the impeller housing. I could not find the other. would the removal of the thermostat and cooling of engine indicate the piece is prior to thermostat housing or somehow after. I am thinking before??
