I have an online subscription to Seloc but I can't find but one petcock location on the port side at the rear of the engine. With temps dipping below freezing the next few night here in NC, I need to at least drain the water from the engine and outdrive to avoid freeze up.

Can anyone tell me where the drains/petcocks are for this motor? It's a 1989 model boat. What hoses need to be disconnected?

Also I'm having trouble with the trim not working...is there a way to lower the outdrive without using the electric trim?

I'm sorry to hear that,...... Hope you didn't Pay Too much for it.........
As you have found out,..... It's Not Worth Much.........

There's 1 Drain on the lower portside of the Block,......
There's a Drain just above that 1 on the Bottom of the Manifold,....
And, You should Pull the BIG hose from the circulating waterpump on the front of the motor.......

Remove the UP Hose from the Trim Pump,+ It'll come down.......
You'll need some rags to clean up the Oil that leaks out though,.....

Look on the port side of the engine block towards the back. you should have a petcock on the block.

The one for the exhaust manifold is towards the back on the bottom of the manifold.

I know on my last boat one of the tilt trim solenoids didnt work. My drive wouldnt raise...Not saying this is your problem, but it is easy to check.

Re: 3.0L Mercruiser petcock/drain locations

Thanks for the info. I found both the block and exhaust manifold drains and got the water out of both last night. I also removed the water pump hose just in case.

As for the trim, I jumped the wires and the motor is good. The trim will go up and down when jumped. I replaced the 20A fuse also which had been broken. I'm having an issue now with the trim up. I can lower the unit almost all the way down (trailer is too low) and the only way I can get it to trim up is with the trailer up button...the trim up doesn't work. Doesn't this sound like a trim up/down switch issue?

I picked up an ohmmeter so if there is anything I can check out for continuity I can do so now. Thanks!

It may be working perfectly normal. If you can't trim it down far enough (you said your trailer is too low) to get it into the proper trim range, then the up button will not work and it is not supposed to...to prevent you from overtrimming while under power. Forces you to use the trailer button as an override by design...

Before you waste time troubleshooting a non-existent problem, jack up the trailer or back the thing to the edge of a curb or something...get the drive high enough so you can trim it ALL the way down. Then try it. Betcha it works fine...
