I finally got around to installing a new Merc water separating fuel filter on my 3.0L between the tank and the fuel pump. While I was at it, I also replaced the filter element in the fuel pump bowl. But, I got to thinking....Is the fuel filter element in the bowl still necessary? It's really difficult to get to and replace. Now that I have a spin-on filter, can I remove the element from the pump bowl and run like that?
