I have a 1990 four winns Freedom with a 3.0L IO for power (or lack there of) This is my first boat and my family and I have enjoyed it very much except for one small problem, with 4-6 adults it is a real Pain to get up on plain and go, not to mention trying to pull a skier.

I see that my boat came in a 4.3l V6. 190HP instead of the 130HP I've got now. Is this just an option of an engine swap (along with wiring harnesses, alternator, water pump, etc) does the out drive match up just fine?

Lastly if anybody has done this swap what was the bottom line when all was said and done. This boat is in great shape and we really like it, if she had just a little more getty up we would be very happy.
Thanks.
Mike

the motor and drive are a package in that the drive has different gear ratios for different motors

it is a really big job i would shop around you may be able to find a v6 motor and drive but they tend to be so expensive that it excedes the value of the boat

i have a 3.0 also and just went with a small prop that allows me to use the boat with 4 to 6 people i have a 1995 merc and a v-6 is a drop in for my boat and change the drive gears but it ends up to be a 6 to 8000 dollar job to much for me

tommays

That's a big can of worms. Different mounting system, different exhaust system, different everything. It can be done. But at a reasonable cost? NOT!!! You'd spend less on a better boat.
