thanks

You're going to have to look on the engine and get mfg and hopefully a serial number. If it is Mercruiser the name plate will be on the starboard side of the engine. If you can get the those 2 pieces of info these guys will help you find everything you ever wanted to know.

3.0 liter GM (140 hp) aka the iron duke. Not the fastest thing on the water but you won't be guzzling gas either. Expect about 35-40 mph on smooth water tops. Alpha 1 is probably right but the experts will probably be along shortly to comfirm. Someone here has a good link to a manual on that drive.

Hey Moe, welcome to iboats........:)
It is a GM marine/industrial motor, that you will not find in any auto.....
Very dependable.....
One concern I would have is salt water use & the exhaust manifold/riser...
They only last 5-7 years in salt water use......
Assuming L.I.N.Y......
You do have an Alpha 1 drive with a 2:1 ratio.......
The ujoint bellows should be inspected for any signs of failure......
Those are the top two things that if they fail will cause co$tly repairs.....
Here is a free link to the online manual for your drive, click on the lettered sections to download the section you want to view......;)

Most will tell you its rather sturdy, but I haven't hardly used my boat since I bought it because the previous owner screwed me when I bought it.

My head gasket was blown, the head was cracked, and the block had an external crack........ hopefully this weekend I'll be back in the water...... after 7-8 weeks and $850+!

wow thats crazy well i learned with buying anything not just boats people are dishonest and can screw you in the long run, i bought my boat from a friend of mine and his dad bought it brand new so i pretty much know whats the deal with it but you never know what can happen right!!!! but good luck with your boat and i hope everything works out for you and happy boating
