I have a 1996 3.0LX that will not start or in the rare occasion when it did start ran very rough and died. Engine use to run when given anything more than 1/8th throttle. So I replaced the carb with a Rochester rebuilt carb. Now it wont start at all and backfires. There are two videos below, one of which is of the engine running rough and dying then the other one just showing how it backfires. Really hoping someone can give me some insight.

Are the plugs and wires all good? Check for spark on each wire/plug? What about firing order, and timing?

Put a timming light on each plug wire and make sure each plug is firing just look for the light as your turning it over sounds like only a couple of cylinders are firing @ best and make sure thier in the correct firing order. Also are you getting sufficient fuel to and out of the carbs venuri's?. I have the exact same power plant in my Ray and have had issues of no fire and believe it or not it can be as simple as a connection to the coil wiggle both of the molded connectors on the coil if you get it runnin and see if that helps. Try the simple least expensive things 1st fuel filter, clear fuel line and suction tube from the tank to the pump and also to the carb then check the fuel tank vent for any blockages if that doesn't work try dripping some fuel into the throat of the carb to see if that brings it to life anymore. You should also make sure all electrical connection are clean, lubed and tight. Good luck and get a service manualor look in the stickes in the adults only at the top of this forum for trouble shooting techniques.

It doubt its an electrical issue as you can see it does run, and before I changed the carb it would run very well with a little throttle...just wouldn't idle. I looked into the carb last time when it was back firing and it was filling up with gas with the engine off. I think the fuel pressure is fine as I tested it at 6lb, however the gas is atleast 2 years old but I did add quite a bit of dry/restore gas to it.

Anyone have any other ideas? I could really use some input/help with this engine not wanting to start and just backfiring.
