Hi all went to install a new starter today only to find the bolts that came from the original motor were too long leaving the starter somewhat loose.

have I missed something here like a spacer ?

this is the one I got from cross referencing the OEM part number

https://hc-cargo.co.uk/catalog/p/111699--starter

any ideas welcome

I tried using 3 washers to shorten the bolts but it made no difference

thanks in advance

Ayuh,....... In my experiences, the newer p/m starters not only are 1/2 the weight, 'n 'bout twice the power, they use bolts 'bout 5/16" shorter,.....

The new shorter bolts can be found, 'n bought, or you can cut the ends off the old bolts, 'n clean up the threads,.....

I've heard that the knurlin' is 10mm, vs: 3/8", which might leave the starter looser by a few thousandths of an inch, but haven't had any problems because of that,......
Yet anyways,......

Thanks Bondo.

i think that cutting the bolts would leave too little threaded rod ? Those 3 washers Didn’t cut it and were 50% of the threaded area.

sorry what is meant by knurlin ?

edit - knurling being the hatches on the bolt. Got it.
