3.7/470 rear main cap seals

Can someone give me the proper install tecnique for the two seals that fit into the grooves on the rear main bearing cap? I have two seals, and two steel pins that were togther in the gasket kit. Looks like the pins fit in the grooves on the seals. Are these for install purposes?

given this a bump...trying to get this thing together.

Install seals in rear cap
install read cap and bolts,do not torque
install pins flush with cap
torque rear cap bolts
cut excess seal using a .025 feeler gauge as a guide.

Thanks for the reply. Do the pins go toward the center or outside of the block? Also, should I apply any type of sealer?
